The news reaching the Kingston Dome is that as at 1pm (using) Nigerian time, about 156 people have been arrested in Pretoria, South Africa.
This according to South African Police Chief, Khomotso Phahlan is due acts of violence, looting and destruction of property had occurred during the protest.
The group, Mamelodi Concerned Residents which called for the protest which already has more than 1000 people on the streets of South Africa said the protest is not targeted against foreigners living peacefully in South Africa but against the South African government immigration laws.
According to the group, foreigners have taken over jobs meant for South Africans and are involved in acts such as Prostitution, Drug trafficking and other related activities.
The ongoing protest is happening in parts of Pretoria and Johannesburg and buildings both residential and office (buildings) are being burnt down.
Reprisal actions have taken place in Nigeria as South African Telecoms giants, MTN had their office attacked.
Two years ago, similar attacks were carried out in South Africa against foreigners and this was thoroughly condemned by the international community.
